User Groups

FreeBSD's widespread popularity has spawned a number of user groups around the world.

If you know of a FreeBSD user group not listed here, please fill out a problem report for category www with the following information:

  1. A URL for the user group's website.
  2. An email contact address of a human in charge, for use by our visitors and website administrators.
  3. A short (one paragraph) description of the user group.

Submissions should be in HTML. In keeping with the spirit of FreeBSD, we prefer user groups that are active and which conduct their business in public.

BSD Users Group, Sydney (BUGS)

The BSD Users Group, Sydney (BUGS) meets occasionally in Sydney and surrounds. We have members from all over NSW. To join the mailing list or IRC channel, visit http://www.bugs.au.freebsd.org/. Located in New South Wales.

BUGA, The BSD User Group of Adelaide

Home Unix Users Group for Brisbane

Victoria's FreeBSD Users Group (VicFUG)

AlbaBUG

Augusta

The BSD User Group of the Augsburger Computer Forum e.V. meets every second Saturday at 17.00. Please visit our web site for more information on dates and our address. We have all kinds of BSD, but mainly FreeBSD and Mac OS X. Located in Germany, Augsburg.

BSD User Group Ekaterinburg (E#BUG)

The BSD User Group Ekaterinburg (E#BUG) is a community of BSD users in Ekaterinburg, Russia. We distribute BSD releases to all who asks us for it in our city, and we are trying to help everyone to discover and use BSD. Please visit our web site and learn more about us.

BSD User Group Hamburg (BSDHH)

The BSD User Group Hamburg (BSDHH) meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7.00pm in the Chinese restaurant Lotosblute, Luwenstrasse 22 in Hamburg-Eppendorf. Most members are FreeBSD users, although users of all BSD flavors are welcome. Located in Germany, Hamburg.

BSD User Group Ireland (BUGI)

The BSD User Group Ireland (BUGI) is currently a rather grandiose term for a mailing list and super minimal webpage. All BSD users and enthusiasts are welcome. Located in Ireland.

BSD Users Sweden (BUS)

The BSD Users Sweden (BUS) maintains a mailing list. To join send an email to majordomo@stacken.kth.se with subscribe bus in the body. Located in Sweden.

BSD-Crew Dresden

BSD-Crew Dresden is a User Group who has some projects related in bringing the BSD to the desktop and electronic communication. Located in Germany, Dresden.

BSD-DK

Berkeley in Munich (BIM)

The Berkeley in Munich (BIM) caters for users of BSD based systems in Oberbayern. Located in Germany, Munich.

Bluefrogs e.V.

Unix and Linux User Group in Bergisch Gladbach (near Cologne), German. Meetings are held twice a month. We are working with all Open Source Unix derivates: FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Linux and others. Gruppo Utenti FreeBSD Italia (GUFI)

Manchester BSD Users Group

Núcleo Português de FreeBSD (NPF)

The Núcleo Português de FreeBSD (NPF) is a Portuguese FreeBSD User Group that is engaged in the production of documentation in Portuguese language. Currently the activities are centred on the translation of the FreeBSD Handbook and on the production of CF's (aka HowTos) that try to answer questions or propose solutions to problems that are experienced by Portuguese users. Romanian BSD Forums

Romanian BSD Forums provides a friendly place for the Romanian *BSD community to share knowledge. A specific FreeBSD section is available on the forum.

Russian FreeBSD User Group (RFUG)

The Russian FreeBSD User Group (RFUG) is a Russian language oriented user group for the Russian and ex-USSR users. Located in the Russia.

Russian UNIX Forums

Russian UNIX Forums provides a place for the Russian Unix community to share knowledge. There are some articles and there is a maintained Unix Encyclopedia Project. A specific *BSD section is available as well.

Swiss BSD User Group (SwissBUG)

The Swiss BSD User Group (SwissBUG) caters for users of BSD-based systems in Switzerland. Located in Switzerland.

The Aachener BSD Stammtisch

The Aachener BSD Stammtisch is meeting infrequently to discuss BSD and related matters over a glass of beer. Meetings are coordinated through our mailing list. Located in Germany, Aachen.

The BSD User Group Austria (BUGAT)

The BSD User Group Austria (BUGAT) is a german-language oriented user group. Visit our server for more information. Located in Austria.

The Cosmo-Project

The Cosmo-Project is a User Group with a difference. Instead of just meeting, they actively develop project such as robots. Most users use FreeBSD, but it is not a specifically FreeBSD-related group. Located in Germany, Duisburg.

The Dutch FreeBSD User Group (NLFUG)

The Dutch FreeBSD User Group (NLFUG) has had our first meeting on oct 2, 1999. On this day 30 years before that, the second IMP was installed in Doug Englebart's lab at SRI. This, as you all know, was the start of something that grew to be the Internet (thanks to Edwin Kremer for bringing this to our attention). Located in the Netherlands.

The French FreeBSD UG

The Hungarian BSD Group

The Hungarian BSD Group is a group of NetBSD, FreeBSD and OpenBSD users located in Hungary. Their meetings occur on the second Friday of the month. The website of the group is http://www.bsd.hu.

The Koelner Linux und U.n.i.x Gruppe

The Koelner Linux und U.n.i.x Gruppe(Cologne Linux and U.n.i.x Group) is a community of Linux and Unix users located in Germany, Koeln (Cologne) with a mailing list and meetings two times a month.

The Lublin BSD Users Group

The Norwegian BSD User Group (NOBUG)

The Norwegian BSD User Group (NOBUG) is a User Group for BSD users and enthusiasts in Norway. Meetings are currently held in Oslo and Bergen. Visit our website for more information. The Portuguese *BSD Users Group

The Romanian FreeBSD Users Group/Free Unix Group (ROFUG)

The ROFUG (Romanian FreeBSD Users Group/Free Unix Group) is a User Group for the Romanian users of FreeBSD and Open Source in general, promoting and supporting FreeBSD and Open Source usage. The Serbian BSD User Group

The Serbian BSD Users Group provides an open forum for all things BSD-related in the Serbian language. Located in Serbia.

The Swedish FreeBSD Community

FreeBSD.se is a Swedish FreeBSD community in which one can read and post articles and how-to:s in Swedish. There is also an active forum for asking questions and helping others with problems related to FreeBSD.

Ukrainian FreeBSD User Group (UAFUG)

The Ukrainian FreeBSD User Group (UAFUG) is a Russian/Ukrainian languages oriented user group for the Ukrainian users of BSD-derivatives, promoting and supporting BSD flavours and Open Source usage. The UAFUG has had its first meeting on 2 June 2002 and meets every 2-3 weeks. We also provide an open forum for all BSD-related things in the Russian and Ukrainian languages (though we can read/write in english as well). Ulmer BSD User Stammtisch

The U-BUS meets every last Thursday of the month. For more information about meetings and related issues, please check the web page (u-bus). Located in Germany, Ulm.

Unix Users Group Rhein-Neckar eV (UUGRN eV)

The Unix Users Group Rhein-Neckar eV (UUGRN eV) provides a regional forum for users of all Unix flavors, with a stress on Linux and BSD. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the "hafenschenke" in Mannheim and the fourth Wednesday of each month at the "Vater Rhein" in Heidelberg. Located in Germany, Mannheim.

North America

Bay Area BSD Users Group (BABUG)

The Bay Area BSD Users Group (BABUG) has monthly meetings, alternating between San Fransisco and Berkeley. Those interested in attending should visit the web site or send mail to the BABUG Web Master. Located in North San Fransisco Bay Area.

Broome County BSD Users Group

BC BUG is a society dedicated to the artform of engineering intelligible and predictable software.

Capital Area BSD Users Group

We meet on the last Tuesday of the month. Join the mailing list by sending a message to misc+subscribe@capbug.org. We meet in Maryland, but welcome anyone from MD, DC or VA.

FreeBSD Mexico

FreeBSD Mexico is a Spanish oriented User Group not only for people in Mexico but also in other Spanish speaking countries. Please contact Alejandro Acosta for more information.

FreeBSD-Milwaukee

FreeBSD-Milwaukee Wisconsin meets occasionally and has a mailing list: freebsd-mke-l@ns.sol.net send e-mail to freebsd-mke-l-request@ns.sol.net to subscribe.

GTABUG

The GTABUG User Group welcomes all BSD users. Monthly meetings give attendees a chance to share ideas, discussion and information. Installations and other events help preach the good news of BSD to the community. Come drop by for a meeting! Located in Greater Toronto Area, Ontario.

Greater Lansing Linux User Group

GLLUG is an organization for users of Linux, FreeBSD, and associated free software in Lansing, Michigan (USA) and the surrounding area. As with the organization at large, the weekly meetings are very informal. We talk about what we've been working on for the last few weeks and catch each other up with what is going on. Often there is an official topic proposed ahead of time on the mailing list, but sometimes we just discuss what is on our minds.

Greater Utah BSD Users Group (GUBUG)

The Greater Utah BSD Users Group (GUBUG), formerly known as SLLUG-BUG, and affiliated with the Salt Lake Linux Users Group, is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We welcome users of FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD or even Unix or Linux.

Kansas City Area *BSD User.s Group

We are a beginning BSD User Group with currently two members. If you would like to join, please visit our web site here. Our goals are to have fun, help others to learn about and using *BSD and evangelize the BSD operating systems.

Kansas Unix & Linux Users Association (KULUA)

The Kansas Unix & Linux Users Association (KULUA) is a Free Unix User Group based in Lawrence, Kansas, but with users throughout eastern Kansas and western Missouri. NMLUG

New York City *BSD User Group (NYCBUG)

Ottawa-Carleton Unix Users Group

The Ottawa Unix Users Group is a small group of hobbyists, users, authors, sysadmins, and hackers that meet monthly to discuss the latest topics in a very informal setting. Check our mailing list for the latest information. Located in Ottawa, Ontario.

Phoenix BSD Users Group

Portland (Oregon) FreeBSD Users Group

Reno Linux Users Group (RLUG)

San Diego BSD Users Group

Seattle BSD Users Group (SeaBUG)

Silicon Valley BSD User Group (SVBUG)

The Silicon Valley BSD User Group (SVBUG), a forum for BSD and BSD embedded systems, meets on the first Thursday of the month. The Ames Free-Unix Group (amesfug)

The Ames Free-Unix Group aims to promote the use of Free Unix. We meet on the campus of Iowa State University once a month and hold a presentation with an open question and answer session afterwards. The Berkeley Unix User Group

The Berkeley Unix User Group is a general Unix Users Group for anyone in the San Fransico Bay Area. We meet on a weekly basis in downtown Berkeley. Visit the web site or send a message to buug-request@weak.org with subscribe in the body. Located in Berkeley, CA.

The Capitals District *BSD Users Group

The Capitals District *BSD Users Group draws it's membership from New York's capital district and the surrounding communities. CDBUG was founded in December of 2004 and has a small bug growing membership. We currently meet on the last Sunday of every month in the Albany area. The Connecticut Free Unix Users Group (CFUG)

The Connecticut Free Unix Users Group (CFUG) is devoted to free Unix, but has resources for almost all Unixen. Their area of operation is Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. More information can be found at http://www.cfug.org. Located in Connecticut.

The Global BSD User Groups

The Global BSD User Groups organization was founded to help promote local BSD user groups by helping to share ideas and experiences with other BUG organizations. Our goals are:

  • Foster inter-BUG relations and communications to increase unity in the BSD user group communities.
  • Assist in increasing awareness of smaller user groups in the community.
  • Facilitate idea and resource sharing through common access to meeting presentation topics and materials.
  • Increase exposure to other BSD projects where local user groups may have less member interest or experience.
  • Offer a BSD user group for those without a local BUG.
We are working on ways to provide remote participation through streaming video of presentations. You can check our website or contact us via e-mail.

The Houston FreeBSD Users Group

The Houston FreeBSD Users Group was formed March 1999. Our goal is to promote and educate Houston area computer users on FreeBSD Unix. We meet on the third Saturday of the month. The Southern Utah Unix Users Group (SU3G)

The Southern Utah Unix Users Group (SU3G, SU^3G, SU3G, or SUUUG) is for users of any version of Unix or Unix-like operating system, commercial or open source. So, whether you use FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, BSD/OS, Solaris, OpenBSD, or any other Unix or Unix-like OS, and if you live, work, or associate with someone who lives or works in southwestern Utah, then consider joining the SU3G. The Users of Free Operating Systems (UFO Chicago)

The Yahoo Club

The Yahoo Club group is a foundation for a Los Angeles based BSD User Group. Located in Los Angeles, CA.

Triangle Area BSD Users Group

The Triangle Area BSD Users Group is a group for BSD users in the North Carolina Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) along with surrounding areas. The website contains announcements, contact information, and directions for subscribing to the TriBUG membership mailing list.

Tucson Free Unix Group (TFUG)

Tucson Free Unix Group, Arizona. Located in Tucson, AZ.

Twin Cities BSD User Group (TCBUG)

The Twin Cities BSD User Group (TCBUG) meets once a month to discuss issues important to the BSD community. The website carries our major announcements, while you are encouraged to join the mailing list tcbug@tcbug.org to keep up with general group discussion. Look at the site, join the mailing list, come to a meeting. We look forward to learning from you and with you about BSD Unix. Located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.

Unix Hobbyists' Administrators' & Coders' Club

U.H.A.C.C. is a fellowship of individuals united by a common interest in UNIX® or Linux systems and open technologies. At meetings you may find beginners and pros alike discussing system setup, networking, configuration, free/open source software, coding, tech culture, politics, upcoming events, games, or any other topic under the sun that pertains to operating "that" kind of system. You can also find us applying what we learn each week in the form of diverse and interesting tech and development projects, all using UNIX® or Linux platforms.

Unix Users of Deep East Texas

The Unix Users of Deep East Texas is dedicated to all things Unix. This group is open to users of all flavors of Unix. We meet on the last Saturday of the month at the Angelina County Court House. See the web page for details, or send e-mail to admin@uudet.org. Located in East Texas.

WAFUG

A new FreeBSD Users Group has been created in Wichita, Ks. We are fairly new and working on our site, but we wanted to it up as soon as we had it available. We do not currently meet. Washington DC FreeBSD User Group

Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group (WPLUG)

The Western Pennsylvania Linux Users Group (WPLUG) has a strong and growing community of BSD users that it supports. See our home page ( http://www.wplug.org) for information on regular meetings and join the mailing lists. Located in Pennsylvania.

Wichita Area FreeBSD Users Group (WAFUG)

The Wichita Area FreeBSD Users Group (WAFUG) is a free Users Group provided to anyone in the Wichita area for support with FreeBSD and other Unix and Unix-like operating systems. We meet twice a month, usually in a restaurant where you can smoke or drink if you like. Windsor Unix Users Group

The Windsor Unix Users Group (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) covers BSD, Solaris, SCO and others. This is not specifically a FreeBSD User Group, but we do already have members running FreeBSD. The group operates a mailing list (wuug-list@unixpower.org). More information can be found at http://www.wuug.org.

Yavapai Free Unix Users Group

The Yavapai Free Unix Users Group is now forming for *BSD/Linux, etc., users in Northern Arizona. Please contact Russel Carter ( rcarter@consys.com) for details. Located in Northern Arizona.

New Zealand FreeBSD Users Group

The NZ FreeBSD Users Group runs a mailing list and maintains local mirrors.

The China FreeBSD User Group (CNFUG)

The China FreeBSD User Group (CNFUG) was formed May 2003. It publishes the CNFUG Journal (A FreeBSD Technical Journal in Simplified Chinese) monthly. In addition, we offer a BSD UNIX Support forum, IRC and several mailing lists in Chinese. Located in China.

The Daibou East *BSD Users Group (DEBUG)

The Daibou East *BSD Users Group (DEBUG) is now forming for *BSD users in Tsukuba area. Located in Ibaraki, Japan.

The Echigo BSD Users Group (EBUG)

The Echigo BSD Users Group is the users group for BSD users around Echigo (aka Niigata). For more information on our events and mailing lists, please check the EBUG web site.

The Israeli *BSD Users Group

The Israeli *BSD Users Group has a mailing list for general discussion of *BSD operating systems for Israeli users, which includes topics such as setting up and working with Hebrew in BSD and setting up Internet connections with ISPs. The Israeli *BSD mailing list promotes the use of *BSD throughout the country, and acts as an information center for all *BSD users. Mailing list posts can be sent to bsd-il@libagent.org. The Jogja FreeBSD Users Group

The Jogja FreeBSD Users Group is based in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia. Send email to 22961476@students.ukdw.ac.id for more information.

The Kansai *BSD Users Group (K*BUG)

The Kansai *BSD Users Group was established on November 13, 1999. It is expected to promote communication of any of the BSD variants' users. Some of its activitities are to hold friendly parties of the members, and to hold seminars covering wide variety of topics. Please e-mail here (kbug-admin@kbug.gr.jp). Located in Kansai, Japan.

The MyBSD Malaysia Project

The MyBSD Malaysia Project is a Kuala Lumpur based User Group for BSD users and open-source in general, promoting and supporting FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD and open source usage. We meet once a month, usually at Universiti Malaya or Restaurant Bahadur Shah. One of our projects is to develop a Unix file manager. BSD Argentina

We have the goal of promoting BSD systems in server, office and home environments. BSD Argentina serves as a base for Argentine users of FreeBSD, PC-BSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and other BSD variations. Join us!

The BSD Users Group Peru

The Brazilian FreeBSD User Group (FUG-BR)

The Brazilian FreeBSD User Group (FUG-BR) is a Portuguese language oriented User Group intended to help Brazilian FreeBSD users to find support and articles on and about FreeBSD in the Portuguese language. We keep some projects such as the " FreeBSD LiveCD". Currently the group has over 800 members and our mailing list has an average traffic of 80 messages per day. User Group BsdSul

Bangalore BSD User Group (BANGBUG)

BANGBUG - (Bangalore BSD User Group) is a users group for open source Unix-based systems in the Bangalore India area. Our primary emphasis is on FreeBSD, but enthusiasts of other open source Unix and Unix-like systems such as Linux, DragonFly BSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Darwin, MacOsX and OpenBSD are welcome.

Bangladeshi FreeBSD User Group

The Bangladeshi FreeBSD User Group is a group of the FreBSD users in Bangladesh. This group aims to build the scope of sharing knowledge and experiences on FreeBSD.

Mongolian Unix User Group (MUUG)

MUUG - (Mongolian Unix User Group) was formed in 2004 and it is based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Our objectives are to share the knowledge, and to promote and educate people about Unix, Linux, and BSD operating systems and open source software. We meet once a month. We also operate a local Unix mailing list and maintain downloadable images of Unix/Linux/BSD distros.
